“This painting is based on photo references by Roman Initski
The photos were taken in the Ukrainian city of Irpin.
It tells us about how civilians tried to get out of the epicentre of hostilities, and how they tried to save their families in their cars. And sadly, it shows how many had failed.
Series of works “”Point of no return””.
The old cars have long been the heroes of Mary’s paintings. Their stories tell us about people’s lives and the legacy they have left behind.
Maria could not remain indifferent to the realities of the Ukrainian war. She could not remain silent. This reflects in her work as a storm of feelings, grief and indignation that raged in her.
The idea of creating a series of paintings “”Point of no return”” was born during that period.
The basis for these works was the photographs of the artists from Ukraine, who agreed to help in the creation of this series and provided images.
Maria is immensely grateful to these people for their understanding and openness.
The “Point of No Return” series is based on real events. It is designed to tell people about how terrible war is and how much suffering it brings to millions of innocent people.”
